"I walked in just as Patrick Breiner blew the first blast of the evening: a startling, corkscrewing, unaccompanied improvisation on tenor sax that lasted for minutes without a break. It was an impressive feat... and it served notice that Breiner is a force to be reckoned with.

A skinny kid in a T-shirt... he's an assured saxophonist supported here by the skillfully modernist rhythm section of drummer Michael Brenneis and bassist John Christensen. The combo played edgy originals. It wasn’t that Breiner’s trio couldn’t swing happily if they wanted to: the set’s last number proved that for anyone who was wondering."
- Dean Robbins, The Daily Page

Patrick Breiner, originally from Baltimore, received a BFA in Jazz Performance from New School University in May 2006. While at the New School he studied with saxophone greats such as Dave Glasser, Tony Malaby, Rich Perry, and George Garzone and saxophonist/clarinetist Chris Speed. Patrick moved to Madison, WI in August of 2008 and is rapidly making a name for himself as a highly original and versatile musician with a knowledge and appreciation of the past and an urge to take the music of today to the next level.

A veteran of New York's jazz scene, Patrick is an active member in groups as varied as Billy Hart's "Academy" band (jazz quintet), Bing and Ruth (live ambient music), NOOK (instrumental/improvisational rock), Basement Magic (jazz trio), and Myk Freedman's Suit and Whistle Sound Band (jazz/folk/circus/klezmer).

Patrick can be heard on recordings by Bing and Ruth, NOOK, Jean Rohe, Cosmo D's Sauce, and a CD of his own solo saxophone compositions entitled Vartan Mamigonian.

After several months in Madison Patrick has found kindred musical spirits in percussionist Michael Brenneis and bass player John Christensen, both veterans of the Madison music scene. Their music has the drive and focus of classic trios led by saxophonists such as Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, and Steve Lacy. Combine that with heavily arranged music and clever group interaction and these three musicians conjure a sound all their own.
